You're in the right place... thanks for taking an interest in me and welcome to my no-bullshit resume space.
Traveling a somewhat eclectic career development path has brought forth many valuable lessons and confidence in my ability to execute, learn from my failures and motivate myself past the difficulties and discomfort to get things done. Before deciding to quit my comfortable job as a frontend engineer leading a team, working alongside brilliant people in educational technology and dedicated myself to go after something completely new to me in the hope of building something better, a game development startup to help people memorize anything they want while having fun, I got to learn from a multitude of roles, failures and successes. From aspiring architect, to bartender, to hospitality venue manager, to freelance web developer, to platform engineer, to software engineer, to now game designer/game developer/founder/CEO of SOGGY INK GAMES PTY LTD, needless to say I have grown significantly throughout my journey.

My teaching myself programming was a challenging pivotal point in my life, it allowed me to hone in on my passion for creative problem solving and solidified my understanding of where perseverance can take us. From then onwards the lessons continue, having worked with some of the brightest minds in educational technology has taught me the importance of empathy, thoughtful deliberate communication and adaptable leadership.

Intentionally enhancing my technical skills, I was able to and had the pleasure of leading a team of developers, gaining a significant understanding of what a team needs to succeed, where trust meets competency, to be resilient and adaptable decision makers. As well as the value we collectively are capable of sharing with one another if we choose to support and expand people's social graphs, to connect, share knowledge and push ourselves to think bigger and do more.

An avid communicator whose friendly and charismatic nature shines through in professional relationships and collaborations. Self taught, driven and passionate about keeping up with the latest technologies and tech news. Hungry to grow further, continue learning and determined to succeed.

To me transformation lies in our openness to explore and develop ideas, to re-imagine with the freedom to change our minds so we can design better systems having learned from our failures and successes without being confined by them.

To memorize information is difficult and studying for an exam can be a demanding and stressful experience. Indeed, we value and respect all higher ed students working hard to achieve their goals, and continue to build on their knowledge post graduating, we want to support them by giving them access to new systems & innovative ways to help them commit new information to semantic memory. And in order to do this we are building an interactive fully immersive 3D platform where you can learn to memorize anything you want by playing a game. This platform will facilitate memorization, learning how to learn, as well as giving higher ed students the opportunity to connect with their peers who's goals are in alignment, in a safe virtual space. The benefits for the next generation of doctors, nurses, engineers, etc are limitless.

PROFESSIONAL ENDORSEMENTS

Software Engineer at Canva

NanJie Chen

I worked with Ian in Pearson, he is a responsible and reliable coworker we can trust. I find his work easy to follow and done in high quality, in which he demonstrated his passion in his craft. Besides, he is proactive in building a strong team by facilitating knowledge sharing between engineering teams.

Senior Front-End Developer at Pearson

Jacinta (Tan) Spada

Ian is a team player with a knack of gathering a group of people together and facilitating knowledge sharing. He brought a lot of energy to the team and really cares about creating a great team culture and a synergetic environment where people can feel free to create and try new things. - Jacinta Spada

Principal Software Engineer (Full Stack) and Tech Lead

Isaac (Itzik) Hagoel

Ian is an excellent communicator and motivator and cares deeply about developer experience and user experience. He is a great organizer and happy to step up to a challenge and take the initiative.

Full stack Engineer | U of Oregon Instructor

James Carvallyo II

Ian is a leader and a pleasure to work with. Throughout my time with his he owned several projects including our front end developer gild. He would come up with topics each week, solicit speakers from the team, and bridge the communication gap we had as team working in several continents and states. Ian has a vibrant energy and get it done attitude that makes his a person people gravitate to. He is a gem as he is knowledgeable about products, technology, and people. I know he will thrive in any environment

Designer

Wilson Duong

Ian is someone who is now a self-made innovator creating his own products. Some of the things I noticed during our time together demonstrated to me that he is someone who is willing to put the effort into solving problems. Ian created an environment around you that was welcoming and easy to approach, helping to propagate team morale. Ian took on responsibilities outside the scope of his role in helping others learn and achieve their goals.

Frontend Engineer at Pearson

Steve Liu

Few people has the positive presence like Ian. I had the pleasure to work with his for approximately one and a half years under the same team. He is very technically competent but his most impressive trait is his ability to motivate the team, create team sprint and drive change within the team. He is also someone who is very approachable for discussions of any kind. As a leader or team member, Ian has my highest recommendation.

Senior Developer at Sven

Anthony Muscat

Ian is an enthusiastic developer who demonstrated his insight, drive and leadership regularly. Be it his passion for new technologies, will to take ownership of and actively contribute to projects large and small, or organising and running the weekly front end chapter events, Ian was always friendly, reliable and a pleasure to work with.

Senior Software Engineer at ValueLabs | Pursuing MTech in SE from BITS Pilani | Web3 enthusiast

Adeesh Sharma

I have known Ian for the past 12 months being his colleague at Pearson. He has been an excellent team mate, a team leader who motivates and uplifts his peers to bring out the best in them. He knows how to manage people and bring them together and lead in his role from the front. He has great communication skills. In fact, I have learned a lot from her. He taught me some basic technical skills to maintain quality and consistency in my work, which were quite effective for me as a new joiner in the team. He Believed in me throughout, which motivated me to continuously deliver more. Whenever anyone in the team needed support or wanted technical guidance, Ian has always been there for them. Ian holds strong opinions that not only set his apart from the rest but also helps everybody in the room think out of the box. It is sad to not have his around any longer as he now moves on to achieve better things in his career and life. Her valuable insight, communication skills, confidence level, good behavior with peers, ability to deal with sensitive issues would be a valuable asset for anything that he sets out to achieve here after. Always wishing the best for her.

Interests

Taking over the dance floor when Dua Lipa is playing is a pretty big one on the list. I love reading, predominantly non-fiction, but also enjoy the odd illustrated comic and getting the lost in the beautiful graphics and storylines the artists have dreamed into existence. And when not fully submerged in my nerd life, solving and designing puzzles, learning new technology, researching psychology & the way the brain works and how we process information its time to fight the "software engineer tan" by running alongside the beautiful east coastline, camera in hand to attempt some landscape photography or just take creepy photos of strangers when they're not looking.

Taking life by the horns and appreciating every moment is the way I choose to live my life but none of this would be possible without the people that have believed in me. Together we are capable of so much more, to elevate ourselves and one another, regardless of our differences, with kindness and empathy, to grow and change systems for the better giving people the space to lift themselves to rise to their potential futures.

Tech Involvement

An avid member of the tech community, frequently attending meetups/conferences in order to keep up with the latest technologies and tech news. Tech Meetups Ian is a member of and conferences attended include...
